I have a wiring issue with my 86 that is causing the CTSY fuse to blow and preventing my heater from working, so I cant turn on the defogger. The issue is that I haven't really driven this car for a few months. The windshield would be fogged over completely, and the windshields on the other cars in the driveway would be completely clear. I turned on the car, wiped it down and it immediatly fogged up. Turned it off, walked away for a few mins and when I came back there is a waterfall on my windshield. there is a lot of moisture on it. I'm thinking that the heater core could be causing this, but there is no smell of coolant in the car, and the passenger floor carpet feels dry. I pulled the plastic panel off the bottom passenger side of the dash and there is moisture around the box that the heater core is in. If this is causing the issue, how hard is it to replace the heater core on this year? I've heard its a huge pain for other years...
Just be glad you have an 86, I believe the years from 90-96 were the worst ones.. Not that the early years are any fun.. My 89 heater core went out 2 years ago, I bought a new core and its still setting on the shelf.. Does this tell you anything........WW
If you have Anti-Freeze in the coolant system a heater core leak will leave a greasy film on the glass.
What is inside the box, is it CLEAR liquid or Anti-Freeze colored? I guess what i am asking is..Could it be water, rain or wash?
I'd pull both heater hoses off the heater box and hook them together. See if you still have moisture on wiendshield. If yor still getting moisture on wiendshield I'd put a couple inline valves and be done with it
When you have an oily film on the inside of the windshield and a fishy smell inside the car, suspect the heater core. When you just have a fishy smell on the inside and no film on the windshield, suspect your passenger.
