i have a corvette that has been sitting for five years. im trying to get it down to arizona its in cali. the vette runs perfect but since it has been sitting for so long what do i need to do to get it down to arizona at the minimum price. the old gas has been removed
I would guess, that you need to have all fluids flushed....radiator, trans, engine, and have them check the differential.
Mine was not driven and maintenance was ignored. Cost for all the flushing was about $600.....aaah the brake lines also need to be flushed and tested for leaks.
I'd drive it then but watch the tires....most probably need replaycing. I am OK +/- with Falkens....only company that I could find that had replacement size....I am not into spending a lot of $ just for the Sun City boulevard
You need a tow truck, train or truck auto transpo. I assume the tires are cracked, the engine full of junk, crooked exhaust and more problems to pop out before you reach the mountains. There is a member in here with that type of experience. Find him and he will be able to help you.
shoot i drove my friends 85 vette over 300 miles when he had me pick it up when he bought it, just gas her up and go. that thing was scary fast, you will have some fun with this car, I know! i did a couple burnouts on the way back but dont tell him that!!!!

I recently got the 84 I purchased new out of 10 year storage and started working on it to get it back in shape. The following is what it NEEDED: battery, tires, fuel pump, drained and cleaned the gas tank, new fluids everywhere, new vacuum lines, wiper blades, rebuilt the digital dash, an IAC for a throttle body, turn signal flasher, 2" aluminum radiator, master cylinder, cruise control servo, rebuilt both headlight motors and fixed the 4+3 OD. All of these were needed to get everything working and the car safe to drive.
The following are the other things I did: air filter, spark plugs, distributor, rotor, ignition module and capacitor, 180 degree thermostat, 200 degree fan switch, and a Bose CD player.
I still have a couple of cosmetic items to get to but overall, it's been fun, hasn't cost TOO much money and it's a blast to drive again.
If you're making a long trip, forget about it. You'd be a fool to just jump in and go. A U-haul trailer is only $55 a day.
Yep.
I bought my 'running' car from Maryland and asked the PO if it was 'drivable'.
He assured me it was no problem. But something in me said 'rent a car hauler'. Glad I did.
The 'drivable' car had no 'Tail-lights', 'wipers', and the engine had a 'squeal' once it was warmed up.
Best $65 I ever spent.
BTW.
The 'squeal' was the PCV and engine 'vent' line being reversed. Engine was trying to 'lock-up'. (still not sure if any damage was done because when I start the engine cold, it has a very faint 'knock' when the temperature outside is below 40 deg. It's fine once oil pressure builds up.)
You can never know the condition of a car by what the PO might tell you.
