Phewwww... finally dug around in there, and got a pair of vice on the cable.... Let me tell you... BACK INJURY+CORVETTE+6'4"+260 lbs= HARD TO WORK ON....
For now, there is a pair of vice hanging off the cable... the electic release is poping loud again, but not enough to open the window... so....
My 86 was stuck. I had not opened it for quite some time and the glass got stuck to the weatherstripping. Get someone to hold the button down and gently pull the hatch up and see if the weatherstripping is acting like it is stuck to the glass (therefor holding it down, or shut). I got a dull screwdriver and again gently separated the weatherstripping from the glass. Got a few inches loose and the hatch opened the rest of the way. Then I cleaned and conditioned the weaterstripping so it will not happen again....be gentle with it. cheers!

This happens with my '85 as well. When you get it open, lube the strips with dielectric grease or dust some talcum powder on it. If your hatch shocks are getting worn, think about replacement.
