Having just "come back" from a C5, here are some of the selling points to me (why I prefer the C4 to the C5 in many ways):

The clamshell hood is great, especially when working on the engine. (Already mentioned, but worth mentioning again.)

The seats (standard or sport) actually support you and keep you in place. The seats also flop forward far less than the C5 when you tag the brakes.

The narrower footwells support your legs, which is much more comfortable on longer drives.

Drivers door controls are placed where they belong. (All the other controls are too.)

The climate control in my 91 is safer to use because there are specific buttons for air direction rather than having to cycle through a list. It also responds better to driver input.

Especially now with my bad knee, it's easier to get in and out because of the high door sill.

Quick-ratio steering is available.

I prefer the sharper body lines to the "soft/mushy" lines of the C5.

Bitchin' headlights That you can put Hella's into for under $150.

There is also the price issue. A C4 is a great deal when you look at what else you could buy for the same $$.

The C4 has more of the muscle car feel that I grew up with too. The C5 felt too much like a luxury car that hauled when you punched it. The C4 is a sporty muscle car. Yes, I realize it's not as fast as the big-block Mopars I used to have, but it goes well, get FAR better mileage than they did, it's quieter, comfortable, better insulated, and it handles and stops worlds better than they did as well.

Also, it's a Corvette

Honestly, I don't understand why there is so much hate for the C4. It's a VAST improvement in every way over the car it replaced. At the time it came out it was as revolutionary as the C5 (although not so much so in the engine department) was when it came out. It's certainly no slouch at all a quarter of a century later and that in itself is an accomplishment. How many cars get a 12 year production lifespan from the original design with no major re-do's and are then still this much fun to drive another decade and a half later?

I've ways liked the smooth, simple look of the early C4's. To me, that's helped it keep a timeless look.

People are amazed when I tell them my car is 24 years old.

The always think it's alot newer.

As a guy who owns a 64 and a 72 and a 76 and a 79 and an 88 35th Anniv C4 and a 98 and used to own a 95 my favorite thing by far about the C4 is the feel when seated behind the wheel (although my 95 was much better then my current 88)

Then comes that nice clam shell hood...

I disagree with the guys who claim they like the ease of getting in and out of the C4...

Holy cow.... I have to fight my way in ,,,and then pray that I pry myself out....

How about some smaller features:

1) The look of the intake runners on the L98.

2) The luggage shade. Take a look at what passes for a luggage shade on a C6 and you'll see what I mean - my wife (who loves her 2012) couldn't believe it.

3) Three hatch buttons on early C4s.

4) (working) Digidash.

I'm sure we can come up with more ...

Cozy cockpit with great seats, Clamshell hood w/flip lights, and a nice butt! People not in the know about Vettes always ask if it's new or are surprised that it's 16 years old!

As they've already been mentioned, the clamshell hood & flip over lights. I love seeing them every time I turn my lights on. I just love the overall style & shape of the car. There is no mistaking it for any other car. Some of the newer Vettes can be confused with some other cars from certain angles.

Another feature that I love and is distinct is the rearend and tail lights.

Having both an early C4 and a late C4 in our garage, I'll add that I like both gauges in both cars and for different reasons. The 87' has the 'Atari' gauges that always provide some visual amusement and appeal. I like the RPM and Speedo on that and how the colored bars climb, very cool.

On the 95', I like the layout and orange theme. Very intuitive and at night, the soft orange glow and interior lighting always makes for a cool experience.

The only place I've ever heard anyone bash a C4 is on this forum.

The way they handle. I have an 84, which is not the fastest car in a straight line, but by golly that car will go around a curve a lot faster than I am comfortable with! Granted, my car has big tires (315 in the rear, e.g.), and lots of new steering and suspension parts. The cool thing about a C4 is how easy it is to drive fast in relative safety. Dave

I post this every so often...the best feature of a C4 can be found in the summer time.

Take your wife or girlfriend out for a night on the town and have her wear a short skirt or dress. Be sure to open the door for her.

That's all I'm saying.

The main reason I bought my C4's

They're one of the best cars for the money.
Great seats
Easy to upgrade SBC
Strong trans-rearend (6sp, D44)
Clamshell hood, relatively low weight.
Aftermarket support for them is pretty good as well.

"My Vette that's Polo Green
Is great on Gasoline!
Who cares about the price,
It's driving it that's nice!
The Prius is great on gas,
but very hard on my ***.
I'd rather be deep in leather,
Black, red or tan is better,
And nothing like a V8
That made this country great.
A small block comin on strong,
singing a high RPM song.
And Keep your hands off my 'Vette
Cause' we'll never, ever forget!

One more feature that I like and probably was missed is the little bounce the car has with the roof removed....... I love it!
I have owned this car for 18 years, and I still find this car amazing.

Didn't realize this thread would go this far....
