Default Radar Detector

Well, boys and girls, my Escort Solo has finally stopped working. I bought it back in 1989 and it has been in constant use for all that time. Saved me many, many times from getting a speeding ticket. I guess 23 years of use is pretty good. I'm looking to get it fixed, but the new ones (S2) are looking good. Much better protection (23 years in technology advances) so maybe I'll pop for a new one. Any advice??

If you search it you will find over 300 threads on radar detector data in here.

If you google, you will find the radar detector forum.

I have the GX-65 and Im here saying it loud and clear. It is better than the V-1. It has more capabilities and functions than the V-1. Like a paint job, on radar detectors you get what you pay for and mine paid off within a week after purchase

...like a OT post said, those arrows are a gimmick, if any of the four arrows would beep you would slow down anyway.

I just started looking last night and it seems that the Escort Redline is rated about the best. It picked up instant on over 13 miles away. My old Passport would never do that. So if the Police are shooting anyone within say 5-10 miles you'll get a warning.

I've had two detectors. The original Escort when it first came out and then the Passport. My old Passport is still working but I'd like to upgrade.

8500 X50 Black is looking like one of the best for the money.

I just pulled the plug last night. A refurbished BEL RX65 from Escort for $200.
It has virtually the same range as the Escort and a few more features. BTW, The BEL 995 and the Escort 8500 X50 have the exact same electronics. No difference at all. Same manufacturer and all. The 995 can be had for around $150.00.

I like my V1. The arrows are not just a gimic. The rear arrow that kept popping up from behind for 5 miles on my hidden display was really annoying until the LEO pacing me decided he wasnt going to get me so he blew by me at a high rate of speed. The arrows work.

This being said the unit is ready for an update. How about some Speed cams data etc etc.

V1's arrows work great in conjunction with the bogey counter.
I had a pickup tailing me after seeing my brake lights that saved him for a down the road radar trap. Miles later I got another hit but with 2 bogies this time. He followed me through the first one but after seeing the LEO, and with me still poking along in a speed zone, he blew by me and into the waiting arms of LEO #2 just over the hill. My V1 was squalking 1 behind on Ka and one ahead on K band. The local was using the State Trooper as a mask and was cleaning up! My V1 told me all about what was going on and I was not fooled by just a non directional beep. It may be old tech, but it still does a fine job.

Mine has a database on speed cams. It alerted me 1,200 feet out. I was in AZ last month and it went off to alert me.

The V1 has great sensitivity and its nice to know if he's behind or in front of you.
And the remote panel is great..

But..... having the availability of gps and a db of known sites helps in the metro areas.

what? The 995 is similar, but $300. The 955 is 200, but has less range.

Default radar Detector

Thanks for all your suggestions. I'll research it a little and then make a decision. So far, I like the Escort brand. The Solo S2 seems to fit my situation just perfect. I can move it from car to car, and it's battery powered (No cords).
