Default Beast #2 is back!

Picked up my '93 tonight.
It's a whole different animal. Got the Dana 44 with the 3.45 gears in, new Torque converter-2800 Vigilante, tranny cooler. I have to put the exhaust back on, but the ride home with no exhaust(just the cats)was pretty cool.

Probably test it on Sunday at the track.

Frank,
I hear ya! I took off at about half throttle from a stop sign today after my third break in run on the gears and she spun a little (fish tailed) and hooked! I couldn't believe it! It feels like it has so much more than the old 2.59s with the stock TC. I can't wait to get this thing aligned and to the track! :D

Yeah, actually I should get it aligned soon, I want to DRIVE IT! though.

Andy, the car has seen a best of 13.37 already, I'm hoping for at least a 12.70.

I'm curious as to why you went with the 3:54's instead of the 3:73's?

It's actually 3.45, but the reason was simple. When I picked up the rear, the guy told me straight up to leave them alone. You can't beat what the factory put together. In other words, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.
Now if the rear takes a crap, I'll go with different gears, but maybe not since I would have to change the gears for the speedometer again.

Also, it's something different, I'm curious as to how I'll compare to what Mackey and Panuzzo ran with the 3.73's.

Sorry, I was actually responding to CPRGMR. I saw from his signature that he had the 3:54's.

I'm probably going with the 3:73's myself, but some seem to think it is too low. Do you have any idea what the RPM's would be at 70 mph on the highway with 3:54's and 3:73's?

Thanks

At 50mph in OD, it was about 2,000 rpm, the 3.73's obviously will be alittle higher.

You got it, I think I'll take you off the line(maybe:)), but you should be able to take me overall.

Are you going to make any runs before we hit BG?

I figure it goes like this - GM thought that the 3.45s were good enough for the King...

Get the HP up and make a run at that 179 mph top speed barrier...and break it.

Better yet...break it in the quarter. :D Hmm...what would that be? Funny car territory?

Tell you what, GM did their homework when it came to gearing.

The 3.45's in my 6 speed and the 2.59's in the automatic have identical 60' times. They both got the same mpg at highway speeds.

I definitely have more fun in the 6 speed, but we shall see now!

Won't have time. I'm going to be lucky enough as it is to get it all together and tested in time. :(
