(96 coupe) - from what i'm reading in the owners manual, there seems to be only two modes available for programming. one where the doors lock/unlock when the fob is in close proximity top the car, and the other where you can unlock the passengers door and the hatch using the fobs buttons. the lock/unlock in close proximity is a royal pain in the ****. it seems to me there should be a mode where i can unlock the drivers door using the fobs buttons. AM I MISSING SOMETHING OR HAVE I OVERLOOKED SOMETHING IN THE OWNERS MANUAL?
As mentioned, you are understanding the functions correctly.
I also do as Larry mentioned, and just leave the system off unless I am going to be out of sight of my car.
While home, I just leave the auto lock/unlock function turned off.
If I am out and about (Hotel or restaurant when car is out of sight), I will turn the system on.
The system works great, and I like just being able to walk up to/away and have the car lock/unlock as needed.
Given the choice I would pick a standard method, but once you used to it it isn't so bad, can even be handy to unlock the doors when you have your hands full.
There is a way you can program the doors so you can have it auto lock/unlock the drivers door only or both doors. I think it toggles modes when you insert the key in the ignition and press the fob till it cycles while you're sitting in the car. I can't remember if you have to have the ignition turned to on or not though. I do remember I had to reset it once because my wife's side didn't open when my side did. When you get it set, you can still turn the autolock on and off by standing next to the car and pressing the fob till the locks cycle, and it will retain your setting for which doors when you turn it back on. It tells how in the manual but it's a little hard to understand and took me a while experimenting with it till I got it to work.
