hello guys , this my first vette and I will be coming to you fellows from time to time. This is not my first post, however my baby is a 93 convertible and I would like to know how to tell what suspension I have. It's not selectitve. What about z51 . How do you tell? Thanks again.
Write down the RPO codes, post them here and I am sure someone can decode your options. If you have access to the Corvette Black Book, the option codes are all in there. I believe if you Google it, there are a couple of databases online that have the codes as well.
If this is your first C4, I would suggest purchasing an factory service manual, or FSM. It will be like your Bible when tackling repairs. You may also want to contact the Corvette Museum and get a copy of your original build sheet and window sticker for the car. Sometimes that little option sticker in the car is removed or damaged and you can't decode the car completely. With a build sheet, you will have no doubt as to what the car came from the factory with.
Congrats on your first 'vette! Ya did good getting a 'vert and a late C4 to boot. We want to see pics of 'your baby' and believe me, that's how a lot of us feel about our C4's!

Welcome. If you want to see something interesting, visit the Corvette Museum website. You can order a copy of the original build sheet, and even the original window sticker. The build sheet will be of value in figuring out exactly what you have. Do post pics; don't worry that it's not anything special, we all just enjoy seeing each others cars. Every one of us remembers the thrill of getting up in the morning after buying their first vette and seeing it in the garage. I've had my '88 convertible for six years, and I still feel that way.

Assuming no one has removed the build codes/ RPO Codes sticker/placlard in a repaint, etc., the following web site will be of some help for you.

When it comes to suspension options, if you find the RPO Code of FE1, that indicates the most common base suspension. On a '93 C4, if you are interested in a performance suspension, I would not be particularly concerned about any of the choices. None of them will give you the true Z51 options that were only available on 1988 & 1989 models that came without FX3, or 1991 models with Z07. You are much better off thinking in terms of a complete aftermarket suspension. The true Z51 option suspension is very rare, and came only on the 1988 and 1989 models, and close second was the 1991 with ZO7. Model year 1989 was the first year with the 6 speed manual transmission. The 1984 Corvette--with Z51--came with a very stiff suspension, but most people find almost ever aspect under the hood to be a huge negative. The Z51 option in 1985-1987 Corvettes varied in its performance aspects and stiffness. Z51 refers to a performation suspension package. Z52 refers to softer springs on some Z51 cars, especially those that came with FX3.
I know. . . . I have one of the most rare C4 Z51 models ever produced for the street. 1989 Z51, no FX3, and it has 3.54 gears. The only cars more rare than mine were '89 Corvette Challenge cars. Quite a few C4s with the Z51 option came with softer Z52 springs in 1987, 1988, 1989, 1990, etc. Even if your RPO codes say Z51, if you see Z52 included, or the car has FX3, it has softer springs and other less aggressive suspension options. All C4s after 1989 got much softer suspensions regardless of whether they were Z51 cars or not.
Good luck and enjoy your ride.
