So i recently purchased a 1994 corvette from an auction, the other day i tryed to charge the A/C system and the compressor clutch would not engage. When i was looing at the car i noticed that there was what appeared to be a big relay, on closer examination i discovered that it was not a relay but some sort of circuit board and it had apparently been pulled out of the plastic case. Im not really sure what it is or what it does and the chilton book i have sucks. can someone tell me what it is so i can get it replaced?
if you could take a pic, upload it to photobucket.com, and then post the link here, it would help us to help you. It's going to be very difficult to help you based on your description alone.
The Plastic Case poking out on the passenger firewall? That's the Evaporator Cover. The circuit board is the Blower Module. It gets low voltage inputs from the a/c controls (electronic) and amplifies them to run the Blower.
Compressor doesn't engage if it's low on gas. To get it going, disconnect and reconnect the battery. Then jumper the Lower Pressure switch harness connector with a paper clip and it should engage and suck in the gas.
I'd then go to a shop and have them go over it with an electronic leak detector. You're probably going to need to do something about that circuit board too.
