how hard is it to replace the top rubber strip that goes on top of the door at the glass? I seen several C4s where that strip goes bad.
One other question, When cleaning under the hood all be hand with simple green is there something that will bring back the color of the brackers Like the alt.,smog pump ect. and what about the intake? Is there any way to shine that up?
On my 92 coupe the removal was a real pita. The installation of the new piece was quick and easy. Just make sure that you have a couple of beers handy during the removal for break time.
Are you talking about the 2 strips on the roof panel that the top of the window goes into or the window sweeps? I just got done doing those strips on the roof panel.
Thanks for the reply, I was talking about the lower rubber strip. I just learned the name its called the window sweep.
No problem. Don't know if you have a service manual or not but there's only 3 steps to remove it.
1. Remove or Disconnect Door trim panel
2. "" "" "' Door Window
3. "" "" "" Window outer seal strip by drilling out rivets.
Ouch. I guess any car you would need to remove the panel but the window also? Maybe there's a way around it. Good luck. I'll probably have to do mine also.
The window sweeps can be a real can of worms. There are two to consider, the sweeps in the door vs the sweeps in the door panel.
It is my belief that you have to take the window out of the door to do the outside sweeper but I'm not positive. I will look at the car tomorrow when I go to work on it.
The one that rivets to the door panel can turn into a real nightmare.
Your door panel is twnety-five years old, the plastic is extremely brittle and things go snap if you look at them the wrong way.
I am in the process of doing Bquiet sound mat covered with foil clad foam insulation , new jute and weather stripping complete. You would not believe how much work it is. I have WELL over 100 hours into the project. It is just unbelievable how long it takes to do stuff in a Corvette. There are more nooks and crannies and compound curves than you can imagine.
And of all this frustrating stuff I've been dealing with, by far the biggest PITA is the door panels. The guy I bought the car from many years ago seemed to really know what he was talking about when it came to Corvettes.
He put new interor window sweeps on. Man he mutilated the door panels!!! Apparently he couldn't quite figoure out how to get the door panel off so he applied a little extra force. I have repaired five cracks so far.
He broke the top of the passenger door so bad he just epoxied EVERYTHING back together. The thing with a door panel gioing south ...there ain't no substitution. Door panels are very expensive to replace.
Hey Guys,
I'm getting ready to order the rubber window sweeps for my car. Mid america offers 3 types good, better, and best, Some of the other vendors don't offer that and they run from 59.00 to 139.00. So has anyone ordered these before. If so whats the difference?
OK, I'm going to catch hell from the purists, but this is what I did to cover those cracked and split exterior sweeps: covered them with Gorilla tape.
Yup, just stuck it over the deteriorated sweeps and tucked it down inside next to the window with a butter knife. The tape has a kind of matte finish so it doesn't stand out, and both sides have been on for more than a year now, mostly outside, and are holding up fine.
It's a "10 foot" solution for sure, but I don't intend to put too much money into an 18-yr-old car.
