Default Information center removal

I no longer have the digital dash in my 84' I am using a 97' Camaro gauge cluster in the car (That I like much better) and I was wondering if I can remove the switch panel that was used for the atari dash. Can I just remove it? Will there be any negative effects by doing this? I want to remove this panel to install a mini monitor in it's place so I can datalogg and only have to look at the dash no turn 90 degrees to look at a laptop. Thanks for any help you can give me!

I'll show you... Let me get the pics... It's a little rought but I'm working on getting a new panel made instead of the rough one that's on there now.

I didn't like the panel you can buy to just stick gauges into as it looks super aftermarket and I wanted more on an OE look so I went with these gauges. On the plus side the 97' LT1 cluster uses all the same sensors that were used prior to the LS cars and it has the digital odometer.

I cut the OEM cluster cover at the line/indent to the left of the cluster.

Then I used a piece of cardboard to cut out a bezel for the gauges.

Then I cut out the bezel.

Then I mounted the gauge cluster to the bezel and drilled holes for the same mounts the OEM bezel uses. The small piece to the left of my custom bezel is always in the car. I don't have to remove it to take the cluster out.

I love these gauges. I'm not working on a better bezel and a cover for it as the factory f-body one will not fit. If the windows are open the wind catches the speedo needle a little and it bounces a little every once in awhile.

I like the concept. How did you get the gauges to work? I'm assuming its not plug and play. Is there not some clear plastic over the gauges?

Gauges are unprotected currently. I'm working on a cover for them. I wired up the gauges using schematics I found online from the camaro and the Vette. It took me a few days to wire up but now my dash serves as the information center really and not the information center. I would take the whole info center out as an assembly but I don't want an empty hole in the dash.

Pretty cool. The LT1 swap and these gauges probably made life easy. You should outline your wiring for others that may want to do this swap.
