Chattering Headlamp

I've got a left headlamp door that goes up and down, but chatters and the motor continues to run for a few seconds after movement stops. Is that indicative of a stripped gear? Of course this happens on the day I am showing the car to a buyer!

I want to make it right or at least give the guy some money to cover the repair. Thanks for any replies.

My guess is that the nylon gear is flawed and need be replaced. A kit with bushings & gear should not cost big $$ though it takes a little time to do the job.

its the 3 plastic bushings in the gear. many topics on this, and easy to repair

Thanks for the replies. I did a search and thought that would be the problem. Hard to describe the noise it makes, but hey, I learned something today. I appreciate all the help. Thanks!

You dont mention what year car you have. Early cars dont have bushings. The stripped gear is a loud card in the bicycle spokes sound. When the gear is stripped it will cause the motor to run continuously as the shut off is torque activated.
