They're all i've ever put on my vette. No qualms so far. But i don't do any intensive driving. They handle well in the rain. But it's getting to be "that time" for me too. But i think i may venture to a different brand just because they're all i've ever bought. I like the Dunlop Pilots i believe they are called.
I really want to try Goodrich KDs, but I'm afraid of sacrificing too much wet-weather grip.
I have SZ50 285's on the back of my car now. The tire looks good, the tread pattern is okay. They're better than the near-bald GS-C's I used to have. But the car was faster at the dragstrip with the old bald GS-Cs.
The F-Stones are awesome - killer looks, too. Like the lip and the ride is smooooth with very little noise. First time I ever got compliments on my tires. Great traction and only time will tell how they wear.
Michelin Pilot XGT Z4, the only one I would consider(except for some BFG's).
Unforunatly I agree with you, but we're going to have to start looking at something else, because they don't make them any longer. I played HELL trying to find a pair to replace my rears. I think I may have gotten the last two available. They now have the Pilot Sport A/S which replaced it, but as usual their high price went even higher. :mad The wear rating went from 360 (I believe) to 400, so they should last longer. I don't know anyone that's tried them yet though.
The Firehawks ain't too shabby. Good wet/dry traction, quiet ride...and i got almost 40K off of the set i had on the '94...and that INCLUDED some "playing".
.....BUT....in NC we occasionally have to deal with frozen stuff...an in all honesty...the firehawks stunk on snow. I mean REALLY stunk! I've switched to Michelin's. More expensive...but longer life (52K on the 1st set), wet/dry traction as good as the Firehawks...and "decent" snow traction. But they're ~$400/set more expensive than the Firestones too.
I'm running Bridgestone Potenza RE730's on my 1990. These tires stick like glue and are super quiet. NOISE IS NOT AN ISSUE. Light rain today and handling was true and responsive. Out performed the Eagles that's for sure.
I have about 2 weeks left on my Dunlop SP8000's, I've done my research and decided on trying the Nitto 555 extreme tires. They are priced well and have a 300 treadwear rating which hopefully with my right foot and foolish burnoffs will last longer than than the Dunlop's have.
I have heard nothing but good on the Firehawks, but they have a less tread width than comparable size tires though.
I have Nitto 550 Extreme tires on the way...I'll let ya know how they are. I should have them tomorrow or Thursday. Anyone else have them on now?
I liked the tread pattern, the tread wear and the price and performance. I wanted GSC's originally to keep it stock, but couldnt find 4 of them from the same place, and didnt want to wait a month for them from Tire Rack. They couldnt give me a firm date on when I would get them, and im moving soon.
I have even sat in Nitto's race car with the Nitto girl back at some races I went to, promoting my web site.
Kuhmos for the price. Bridgestones also. I have right now Stones, Kuhmos and Michelins. Michelins last forever, 50k plus. Bridgestones are a good all around tire, Kuhmos are the cheapest in 17ins.
BF Goodrich not good in the wet.
Goodyear is over priced, but an excellent tire.
Its pretty much a matter of choice, but they do wear out so I go with the price. Dunlaps in the past have been known to have a soft compound and wear quickly, a sticky tire doesn't last long.
Michelins are invisible you don't even know that they are there. Quite and smooth, a good road tire. Also there good in the slick stuff.
Personally I'd stay away from BFG's. Soft compound and not good in the rain.
