Does anyone know of a diy rebuild for the 92 ecm or any place that has an operational one? Ive gotten the security and engine light after she gets to temp, during a search I found a put an ice pack on the ecm and if it goes away then here lies the problem. so after looking and checking all other items that would come to mind I am in agreemence with this. I only have the one from the vehicle 92 lt1 auto trans. Havent put any money in yet besides new plugs fuel filter and a lil elbow grease ( this was prior to unforeseen issue ) I would like to get this one running as I cant run my c6 in the autoX. its been sitting in storage since last july so I am sure there will be a few new issues but this one will still be there.
Thanks for any input - Andrew
Not a 1992, but my ECM died in my 1990. Since I bought it, she never ran right and always had the sys error on the dash but I never attributed it to the ECM until it got progressively worse to the point the ECM would cut out completely after 10 minutes.
Not aware there are any DIY to fix it as I believe it could be a number of things like dry joints, capacitors, eprom itself. Best path is to look for a test used ecm that comes with a standard eprom for your car. Keep in mind diff ratio's, manual and auto to ensure it works properly. Once you have a working one, you can decide to get your old one exchanged or rebuilt as a spare.
Apologies for not directly answering your question but how this helps.
As I understand it, the ECMs on the ZR-1s are essentially the same except for a few modifications related to the LT5,etc. So, may I suggest you contact Marc Haibeck at 630-458-8427. Likewise, not a direct answer to your question, but a likely lead to solving your ECM isssue.
Thanks guys I really appreciate it. I will be looking into these guys. Another great reason why the forum is a great place. The cf always shows great knowledge and advice.
If your ecm is #16159278 they were used on other cars besides Corvettes. The PROM chip is different though.
This part number was used on Camaros, Firebirds, Cadillacs and Impalas with LT1's. There is one on E-Bay right now for $350. Have no way of knowing condition though.
I was told by a Chevy dealer that they are not made anymore. When they do come back to dealers rebuilt they are assigned a new part number.
The e-bay item number is #140738387101.
I bought a spare used one for my 1993 coupe that came out of a Camaro. It works fine. I did have to spend a ridiculus $300 bucks to get another PROM chip for it.
By the way, I sent an ECM out through a NAPA store. They charged me about $200 and had it for a couple of weeks. That was a couple of years ago though. The warranty tag came off, but I think they had it checked at Cardone. Anyway it works fine.
I've recently been getting help from Jason with parts to fix the "little things" needed for my "new" 35th Anni and am very satisfied with the service and quality of the parts...
