I know this has been answered before but; I cannot find the thread. Can a 1984 smoked targa top fit an early 1986? If so, what would be the mods? A guy around the corner is parting his 1984. He is asking $500 and its a GM top.
if memory serves me, the early 86 is when they first changed. If you have the slightly newer style the top will not be a direct drop in, you would have to change the brackets on your car to match the ones on the top, not terribly expensive.
Here is what fittings the front of the targa roof has.
You can easily change the ''A'' pillar brackets to fit a later model roof on, you will need to drill new holes in your headliner trim molding (for removing and fitting the targa). Or can get the correct year molding and get new covers for the brackets.
The 89-96 targa tops are more readily available......
