Make sure there is no air in the system. Use the bleeder screws to let it out while at idle on a warm engine.

If no obvious leaks are detected and if you find air in the system again after a short run then look into a dye+black light kit to find the leak.

Verify the idle air controller is working and clean.

Replace the fuel filter. Try your start and drive a few yards test w/o the gas cap on too. (don't go far w/o the cap tho!)

Disconnect the MAF, IAT, and CTS electrical connectors and make sure they are clear of the belt and try the hot start and drive a few yards test again.

Key on, engine off, backprobe the TPS and verify it moves from near zero to 5 volts with the throttle opening. The needle on the volt meter should swing smoothly.

If the smoke is smoke and not steam then you've got an oil leak. Rear china wall to intake is a good place to start looking for one. It the smoke is steam then you've got a coolant leak...what's it smell like?

all the above suggestions, PLUS, you need to disassemble the cooling stack (the radiator, the AC condenser), to clean out all the dirt, bugs, leaves, and debris that are probably there. COmmon problem in the C4.
