i have read about replaceing the battery in the tpms sensors on c5 corvettes but cant find anything on c4. my car has tpms band sensors. im sure the baterys are dead being 20+ years old. i have looked for new sensors but the price is crazy at $250 to $300 for one sensor. times that by 4 and your looking at $1,000 to $1,200 +tax and shipping. any one have any idea if the batterys can be replaced or were i can get the sensors at a better price?
The C4 system does not use batteries. I found this description on another Corvette site:
The C4 system uses a transmitting wheel sensor held in place by large band clamp. Each sensor has a separate identification color and frequency, which is transmitted as the wheel turns. The movement of the wheel provides the energy necessary to power the transmitter. If the tire pressure drops below 25 psi, the sensor stops transmitting to the receiver, and the "Service LTPWS" lamp illuminates. The sensors don't require batteries, and the receivers don't need to be reprogrammed.
thats great info thanks. the reason i asked this question was becuse when i first start driveing my car the ltpws will be off and about 10 to 20 minuts into a drive it comes on and stays on till i turn the car off. this happens even if im on the freeway. iv checked the tier pressure and it is set at 35. any idea what could be wrong? and if so is there a way i can fix it myself?
