NY requires the front. Ive had my vette a year now - never had the front plate on. most cops dont even care (besides, i usually wedge the plate b/n the windshield and dash when i pass a cop, then take it right down).
Been doing the same with my other car for 3 years. not one ticket (ok maybe 1, but i fought it in court and won. the cop was wrong).
When States adopt wireless registration and monitoring, you won't need any plates at all. In fact, I don't know why State Legislatures are wasting their time with the Front Plate issue. They need to start thinking about how to get the best price from the likes of Onstar and the wireless carriers and then how to implement the program at a reduced price. They're stuck in the 20's if they think plates will be around in the next 10 years. On the plus side, you'll be able to affix whatever personal message you want to where the plate use to be - assuming your car is old enough - new models won't be equipped with anything for a plate.
Millions would be saved if all states would eliminate FP requirements.
Question for our LEOs; Does the FP helps your needs as a police officer? I figure you would go after
him on a hot pursuit and you will have a clear view of the RP anyways.
They claim it helps to find bad guys. I'm skeptical. And most people get away with no front plates because not every state has the requirement so they don't go around looking someone without a front plate. if they happen to spot you, they may pull you over or may not.
Same thing with a license plate frame that covers the name of your state. They can give you a ticket for it and sometimes they do and sometimes they won't. A few here on CF have received one.
I recently replaced my frame because I don't want to give them a reason to pull me over but I see about half of everyone here that has it covered up.
Missouri requires a front plate, but you see quite a few Corvettes without them.
I am running one on my '96, mostly because it didn't have the cover when I bought it and also just didn't want to attract the attention.
That is also when I noticed all the Corvettes without a front plate.
On the new Camaro we bought, I just can't bring myself to drill holes in the bumper cover to install the plate braket.
So, so far no front plate on it.
I am sure I'll hear about that decision though, if/when the wife gets a no front plate ticket.
Here in Nebraska we just passed a law that no longer requires a front plate if you can demonstrate 1) your car is not your primary driver and 2) that you are in a car club so the car is for "parades, auto shows etc". we will have to pay an ADDITIONAL $80 for this privilege!!!!
