Alrighty guys, this should be interesting. I was talking to one of the guys at work here, he's from Brazil. He was talking about how his friends road race and such down there and that he was a really good driver and such. I haven't seen him drive, but I just asked him if he'd ever driven a car that makes over 300 hp at the wheels. He said probably and said something about a certain type of car that didn't ring any bells with me at all.
Anyway, he then said that the problem with most American cars is that they are really fast in a straight line, but none of them can handle. He says that back in Brazil he has a Tempra Turbo, he claims it handles great. Now it may be, but I've searched for Tempra Turbo, and all I can come up with is a 4 door front wheel drive FIAT. Now I'm no expert, but I've got my doubts about how this thing would handle. Have I just not found the right Tempra Turbo, or is his idea of fast and good handling just completely crap compared to what we call sports cars in the rest of the world?
Yea, I was watching a street racing type video from down in the S. American states, they think its cool to do 2 wheelie tricks and what not with their cars. Also Parking Brake u'ies, etc...(Many have been killed, when their cars tipped over and threw drivers out)
Simply put, I think he believes, the ability to do tricks like that means the car can handle. He has no idea, what handling means, or what true speed is. Take him for a ride, and make sure to lay down towels on his seat, cuz hes gonna shi*t his pants.

:yesnod:
And let us know how that works out. I always love that 'white as a sheet, shaking like a leaf' look they get after their first ride in an actual performance car.
I would really like for him to ride in my friends 396 Camaro, too bad it doesn't run. He'll power slide around EVERY curve just for fun and do some of the stupidest stuff, or so you would think, but he pulls out of it perfectly every time. Sure the Z-28 doesn't handle as good as my car, but it would still be the better ride, as my friend is the dumber, er, um, better driver.
Well if your friend said that he's gotta be sh**ing you because those cars have a FIAT 2.0 litre engine, and they were made for European commuting, let me tell ya, that car handles like a pinto or a gremlin.
And KALE is right he might be talking about the 1.9 TD (turbodiesel)
Tell your friend this "VAI TE FUDER QUE O TEU CARRO NAO PRESTA" he'll understand, and tell him that better than that is the FIAT BRAVO...
Paul
I'd be MUCH more scared in that malodorous turd than a C4...
Excellent point. A C4 sticks like glue in the corners and will lull you to sleep at 80mph. Some of those econoboxes are freaky scary in the most mundane of traffic maneuvers. Misleading SOTP can make a shnitbox feel like an F40. Engine vibration, screaming tires, you think 'holy *****, how fast are we going?' Look down and you're doing 50mph. Maybe that's where his impressions are coming from.
I sometimes watch racing on ESPN and they do have cars that are incredibly fast and great handling on pavement and dirt. I think subaru has one... sorry I dont remember the models, but it depends on the road surface they are talking about...do they mean pavement or dirt, or both? I wouldnt want to take my vette on a part dirt, part pavement track, but then again I never tried it, maybe with the right tires they can kick some aZz.

You're thinking rallye cars, and yes, there are some haulin' mothers. Audi has been one of the kings of that particular hill for some time. Unfortunately they did away with Group B some time in the mid eighties. Those were the turbocharged 600hp awd monsters that would periodically fly off a corner and deep-six about 30 spectators. The C4 has plenty of torque, handling, and suspension travel. With a bit more ground clearance, it would be a killer rally car, although I'm not sure how they would classify it.
it is a fiat, in if there is a turbo (so far i haven't seen one in europe, and i have been living there for 28 years), it is at the most a 2liter, which comes to 180-200hp at the most! since this engine is probably tuned for high altitude, i do not think he makes more than 150 stock and 170-180 a little bit boosted.
