Ok my compressor is out..I have a 1995 LT1 coupe. I going to buy a compressor but the parts shop asked me a question is my Motor a Over head or Dual cam..My car is at my friends garage and he is out of town
I have heard that when a compressor goes, there are usually a lot of metal particles found in the dryer, so to avoid problems caused by these particles, it would be prudent to change it.

a failed compressor usually leaves debris everywhere in the system, but most of it winds up in the orifice tube.
the accumulator isn't changed to remove such debris -- it's changed to replace the desiccant bag that is inside of it, so that any residual moisture in the system can be absorbed.
I just bought a rebuilt compressor from Jensen Auto. They have 150K compressors in stock and rebuild many themselves (they are outside of Detroit). The one I bought was for my wife's 99 Acura RL. Worked perfectly. Ask for Jon Gelinski. He is very knowledgeable and knows all about Corvette compressors (we talked more about Vettes than the part I was buying for my wife's car!). Jon told me that the compressor for the 89 to 96 Corvette is model unique and therefore they want your old core when you buy one of their rebuilds. Give Jon a call at 888-392-0333 Monday - Friday 8:00am to 4:30pm. You will not regret making the call.
Tom
PS They sell primarily through eBay but there prices are cheaper if you call them direct. Their website is: http://www.jensenparts.com/
Jon will tell you all the parts you need to replace along with the compressor. If nothing else, you can use Jensen's price to see what kind of deal you are getting for a rebuilt one locally. Either way, I know that this is one of those C4 parts that is not cheap to replace.
If you do call Jon, let us know what you find out as we are all not too far behind you on this one.
