I was looking under my car and on the driver side hanging down a little more then what I think it should is the E-brake cable. My thinking is when the X brace was removed to install the new exhaust, or if it was removed I dont know for sure. anyway is the E-brake cable suppose to be above the x-brace? next question I want to jack up one side of the car with my floor jack to rotate the tires. Do I need something to put on the jack or can I put the jack on the bolts for the x-brace. I see the spot for the factory jack location but I'm thinking something will get damaged if I use a floor jack in that spot.
It would have had to be removed to do an exhaust job and everything should be on top of it not below. I have an x brace on my coupe and I always put the jack just inwards from the bolts on the brace itself.
I use the jack locations as indicated on the car for normal tire/wheel removal. I place a length of 2 by 4 on my jack cradle to evenly distribute the load.
Put a jack on the framerail underneath the mirror. After one side of the car is up, put jackstands on the curved framrail in front and the jacking location in back.

Do you mean that if I put a floor jack below the mirror that both the front and rear wheels on that side will come off the ground together? I want to switch front to back rubber and this will help if it doesn't damage anything.
Funny, when I first got my vert, the brake cable was like that too. Remove the bolts holding the RR corner of the X-brace to the frame. You'll have too loosen some of the other bolts as well. There are a couple of spacers at the rear of the brace, and the cable is supposed to pass though one of them.
Regarding jacking, if you have a typical 'cup' shaped lift pad at the end of the jack, pull it off (if it's removeable) so you have a flat surface that contacts the car. Those tabs on most cup pads could easily damage brake and/or fuel lines. If you use a piece of 2x4, make sure that the grain runs perpendicular to the frame edge, so that the wood doesn't split.
X brace, now stop trolling. if that works you can always put side rails on the X brace too, then it would be far superior would it not?
TROLLING?!?!??! Why does it have to be that??? I asked a simple question for one reason.....I DONT KNOW MUCH ABOUT THIS ! ! I have read posts about both....I have an 84 and it looks like a PIAN to install either....drilling and tapping the holes.....If i wanted to start a heated discussion, I would have asked if i should keep my crossfire or get a renegade......

You cannot put the xbrace on your car unless you want to do what I had to do. '84 & '85's do not have the mount area in the front, you have to fab up your own. I did and I am glad I did because of the benefits I have gotten with the x brace. The x braces were for convertibles only and they did not appear until '86. All you need to do is completely install the brace then fab up an area for the front pads to bolt to. No, I don't have pics and no I won't be taking any,, at least until I change the oil in 1500 miles which is about one summer away for me.
