Is replacing the head gasket something feasible for a novice mechanic? No time crunch, when it's done it's done... ANy tips? Tricks? Help? I have a service manual (somewhere...).
I r&r'ed heads about 1 year after I started tinkering on cars. I didn't know diddley when I was that age- it can be done.
Especially with all the info out there on the net. It is just hard work, little else. just let a competent machine shop resurface the heads and do a quick valve job. other than that, use permatex/aviation form-a-gasket or similar on the head bolt threads to seal the water jacket and follow the torque sequence. You can mess up the intake manifold if you want, that's a little less work to redo.
