Saturday I was working on my Vette, putting an oil cooler in for the tranny. As many of you know, the 85 had a scissors type of hood support. I just stood up after having my upper body under the raised hood when the hood support scissors collapsed and the hood went crashing down. The driver's side of the hood locked, and the passenger side remained slightly elevated. I tried to pull the hood release, and it was loose like the hood latches were already disengaged. The driver's side was locked tight. I used the unlocking tool, to no avail. To finally get the hood open, I did the following: Removed wheel, removed hood liner over wheel, removed battery access panel, removed fender liner, removed battery, used a 13 mm OE wrench to loosen the three bolts which hold the hood spring loaded locking mechanism to the hood. This required modifying a long 1/2 inch tappet wrench by bending it to fit between the windshield and the tiny gap in the hood and contact the third bolt. Once I got all three bolts loosened, the hood popped open. Moral of the story: Buy a hood support conversion kit or risk decapitation. Mine is on order from ZIP.
Lucky for you that she did not swallow you whole and hold you hostage! Things would have gotten downright dirty then.
