Default newbie looking input wanted

Hello all, im selling my Harley Bagger soon and looking at the corvettes to replace it. I really like the 1991-1996 body style.
Not sure if a convertible or coupe would be best for us?
Never owned a convertible so not sure what to expect.
What is possibly the best or worst years to look for. Im hoping to find a well maintained car with a clean carfax record etc.
Any online sources or books to buy for checking one out (rust, damage prone area etc)recall info etc.
Ive just started looking and any input is good for now.
Thanks for any and all input!
Lastly anone in the midlands area of South Carolina?

Here are some of my personal thoughts. I have owned a 95 and 96.

1. I believe the seats in the 94 to 96 are some of the best seats every put into a corvette. For this reason I suggest getting a 94 to 96 vs. the 91 to 93 models.

2. Passenger Airbags: If you have a reason not to want these you would want an earlier model.

3. Engine: Myself I like the LT1 vs the L98 so I had another reason to pick a later model. But if you plan to mod the engine read up on here to figure out which engine will be better for you.

4. Targa vs. Convertible: IMO since the convertible is manual I would pick the targa(all coupes have the targa). Once you learn to take it off and put it on you can do it in less than two mins. It gives you great open air while still giving you the storage of the coupe and the hard top for bad weather.

My personal choice would be a 95. I think the 96 added a few bugs back in and IMO the 95 was the best year for the C4. But remember depending on your budget you may want to consider a 97 to 99 C5 as well. I choose the C4 again for two reasons. First I had the rear end on the C5s. They are simply too "fat". Second to save money. I figured since I like the look of C6 vettes I could get a C4 for under $10k and in 2 to 3 years get a C6(either as a 3rd car or sell the C4).

I'm not a vert guy myself but if you're into bikes a vert shouldn't be an issue.

A vert is so much easier to get in and out of..unless you put the top up...

At least if you buy a vert you know how NOT TO GET IN.
