have to replace ac condensor and as far asi can tell the raditors old but notleaking.Since it wont take much extra time to replace radiator is there a better one that will fit???
Just wrapping up the exact same project except mine was because the radiator was leaking and I did the condenser while I was at it. Mine is a 92 also and the plastic end piece developed a small crack. I'd strongly suggest changing it while you're in there.
The project has turned into a "job from hell", the only vendor who actually delivered exactly what they said, when they said, was the local auto parts place I ordered the condenser from. They even upgraded it to rush shipping at no extra charge.
Check your hoses. I was doing an inventory of mine, which seemed in good shape. I came up with a part number 061092 which I finally realized was the date - they were the original hoses from when the car was made! Needless to say those have to go, and that led to one of the azzaches, I'm still waiting on the return line to be shipped. It was promised to go right out but when I called a week later, gee - it was backordered and they don't know when it will be in!
Shoot me a PM and we can discuss it further if you like. There are a couple things you'll run into which the good folks on this forum were kind enough to teach me, and over the past couple weeks I've become VERY familiar with where every nut and bolt goes!
The heater inlet - the 2-piece hose with the flow restrictor in the middle - is all the same diameter and you can use by-the-foot stuff from the parts store. The return from the surge tank to the water pump is larger on one end than the other so you have to have the exact piece.
Is there anything we can do to make the factory radiator last longer? A check of repairs on mine shows it to be one of the top two repairs.
Mine made it 20 years, and the OP's is still OK at the same age. I don't know how much more you can expect. The usual stuff like periodic flushes would help the core, but the plastic end pieces are going to deteriorate with time and heat no matter what you do.
