Should I do the cut lid mod?
I have a K&N air filter in my car. I was going to do the cut lid mod but read a post that made me wonder if its worth doing. The post I read was posted by someone that did the mod and expressed his happiness with the improved power. All the responses stated that just cutting the lid will not gain any noticeable HP.
Is it true that there is no noticeable HP gain with this mod? Right now my only mod is the K&N filter. But soon to come is: Corsa exhaust (cat back system), 160 stat and hyperchip (or whatever the chip is called).
Is it worth it to do the cut-lid mod?

Well, hopefully I'll have new dyno results on Tuesday. I am going in today to get it dynoed w/o the cut lid. When I go back Tuesday it will have the cut lid. I guess we'll see if there is a difference...I have heard yes AND no...I'm just too damn curious to leave it alone...

you shouldnt get the hypertech, get Ed Wright to burn you one or ask someone over in ECM section to make one for you, hypertech charges too much money
ive done the open lid, and i like it, though i feel only a small increase in throttle response

So that's what the difference was... throttle response! In theory it should be worth it. If yours is the style that has the long, rectangular hole in the middle covered by vents going across the lid, cutting that out gives you about 2/3rds more area open to the filter element. It only ended up costing me about $14 since I didn't have tin snips or a Dremel. Use the Dremel if you have it because it will leave a cleaner cut than the snips and won't bend the metal.
Do it it's cheap and easy! I had terrible throttle response. Had the paper filter with stock air lid. Bought the fast pack and a precut lid best mod i've done. Ok course it is the only mod i've done but its a work in progress.
after doing a cut lid it seems like it spins up a little better, most noticible at freeway speeds.
I just did it this Sunday and thats exactly what I felt. Much bet throttle responce at freeway speeds :D . Very cheap mod, But it is still a mod :yesnod: . And I like it.
I agree, it does make a slight difference. With the K & N filter and the cut lid, it also sounds different, I guess it,s the extra air. Go for it :smash:

The ONLY reason I haven't done this and removed the frisbee is I can't deviate from stock to race in my class. :seeya
