Default Wiper jam!!

Rainy season is starting here is Florida and I drove home from work in my first storm in a long while. Wipers were on, running fine and then I hear a slap and something scared the crap outta me. Then it happened again. The right side of the LEFT wiper caught the RIGHT wiper blade!!! I crossed my fingers that it was a fluke. Then...The left one fully snagged the right one. They bowed out from the windshield under the stress of the motor. Luckily, once I flicked them on and off one or two time, they wiggles free and I drove home without them the rest of the way. Has anybody had this issue before?

To save some time, I'm driving a 1994 coupe.

Help

Wiper collisions are a fairly common issue - usually it's due to a need for adjustments of the wiper arm transmission. There's a procedure in the FSM, or you might be able to find it on here if you search a bit.

The wiper arms were redesigned in '95 to help prevent this issue to some degree.

The best solution I have heard is to put a 1" shorter blade on the drivers side or both sides if you want.

Never had that problem...yet!

I use Rain-x on the windshield and unless it's a real dambuster, iI don't have to use the wipers at all.

Been there!!
I went for a 17" Driver's side wiper. that solved my problem!! You don't really notice that it's 2" shorter than stock in terms of visibility. And I dread having to fix the linkage or motor if it clashes and breaks something.

The length of the passenger side wiper can stay at stock (19" IIRC).
Rainex is also a good idea to minimize use of the wipers.
Good Luck!

I just found my wiper adjustment guide. It is pretty simple. If you PM me your email I will send it to ya. After 20 years most issues have been solved and write up made.

So I need to bring this up. The wiper to wiper jam is fixed. I replaced the blade with a 17" RainX 1 piece wiper. Now I dunno what happened between then and now...maybe I never noticed it since I have only used my wipers once, but my wipers slam into my hood when they come out and go back in. They are, physically, too tall. What the hell!!

Any idea? What is going on?..and yes...both blades hit the hood. Driver side a bit more. And they have taken a nice chunk out where they hit!!

I replaced the wipers when I first got the car and I noticed that the new ones were taller and they were hitting the hood.I went to the chevy dealer and spoke to the parts dept who advised me to use the factory one that is not as tall.I bought them.I think it was trico or anco.they worked perfect. I even think Bosch is also lower.

Enventr: I still need to swing out to the store and swap out blades. Had to drive to work with a foggy windshield this morning with no wipers. I'm gonna try and get it done today....

Never had the binding problem. There are several choices on blades out there once you realize that you need low profile ones. Got mine from NAPA.

So I need yalls help. Apparently, when they got jammed together, that bent the blades. I want to make sure I didn't bend the wiper arm(s). Can somebody please take some profile pics so I can see the curvature of the passenger side and driver side arm. Possibly from the top, front, and rear?

Thanks dudes!!

I have a shorter blade. I ran then with the hood up and they don't bind...but now they hit the hood. I replaced the new driver side blade for a lower profile...looks good now, but the old passenger side hits the hood still. Trying to figure out if the arm got bent. Dunno what's goin on right now...
