But I see to many open holes now. and I guest water or detergent can not be good. what is the best and save way clean the top of the engine.
Iam posting some pics so you can see what Iam talking about
Brake cleaner is cheap, works VERY well, dries up without splashing water all over. Also, for the baked on crap, scrub it down with some oven cleaner. It is great on that dirty undercarriage/trans/etc. Just be sure to hose it off the aluminum very well, or it will eat it. Pits bad if not rinsed.
Oh- get the cheapo brand of brake cleaner- I never had a cheap can not work wonders.
love brake cleaner...just be careful, don't let any of it richocet or drip into your eye...it hurts like hell. I spray it on and then wipe down with heavy duty paper towels; I had to clean two engine compartments on a pier over San Francisco Bay where there could be NO run off; as in no soap, no rinse water, and no oil based "degreasers". The brake cleaner would knock the gunk loose, and what did hit the ground almost instantly evaporated, leaving a small pile of gunk that had previously been attached to my engine.
I have used a small steam machine... With the attachments you really can get into any area...
Really breaks up baked on crap, keep plenty of rags, paper towels to keep sopping up the crud coming off. Be careful around plastics and rubber and always electrical components.
