New shift boot install reverse lock out question
Long time troller, first time poster. Just installed a new shift boot from Redline, but after admiring the new leather I realized the reverse lock out ring is buried under the leather. In reviewing Redlines install instructions I saw that they also buried the removal step of the lockout ring in the section dedicated solely to early 86-87 cars, and I have a 92 so I didn't see or read that part. So, it's time to undo everything and take another shot.
My question is this; How involved is the removal and reinstall of the reverse lock out? I searched older threads, but the pics are no longer posted so the supporting text doesn't make much sense. Upon reading the Redline instructions they make it seem fairly simple, yet I've got the FSM which shows a socket screw ring Redline never mentions. Any tips to keep me out of trouble are greatly appreciated.
By the way, I just picked up my 92 in late April, after a 27 year layoff from Vette's (previously I had a 79 and an 84 when they were new), so I'm rejoining the "brotherhood"
Though this is my first participation in the forum, I've been reading it for quite some time and have learned and implemented a lot of what I've read on here.....you guys are great!

After you remove the ****, there's a tiny hex / allen head set screw, in the lockout lift ring. I think it's a 1mm or 2mm. It's difficult to see unless you have good lighting.
A few counterclockwise turns of the set screw, and the lift ring can be lifted straight off the shifter handle, so you can put the boot on, and then replace the lift ring.
One final note for anyone else who stumbles on this thread in the future looking for help; when reinstalling your shift **** don't completely screw it down all the way or the reverse shift ring won't have enough room to pull up and get you into reverse.
