I installed a new radio in my 95 and when i pulled up the carpet, i noticed under the carpet, it was soaked. Their is a foam pad under the carpet which held the moisture from reaching the carpet, so i do not know how long it was wet. Any suggestions on where the water could be coming from? I have not seen any places where it looks like water could be comming in. How can i try to locate the problem. Thanks for the help.
My 91 has the same problem. To be honest, I am not sure where the water is coming from. I had heard to check the drain hoses for the vent/ac air intake (beneath the windhsield) to see if they were plugged. If the drain hoses get plugged, water will pool up and spill out the floor vents.
The only culprit I can see is that water leaks in where my passenger window meets the targa top. It could track down and end up on the floor.
Yep, me too!! Water comes in mine comes in from the driver's door beneath the glass where the door goes against the inside of the car. There is weatherstripping there on both sides; my weatherstripping is good but she still gets water inside her... :cry I need something to sort of bridge the gap ther
Just went through this a month ago with my son's "new" '92. Lots of folks
gave me pointers, windshield, weatherstrip, A/C drain hose... but it turned
out to be a small hole in the floorboard on each side! If you look under your
car, at the front of the footwell, there is a piece of metal that runs from the
inside corner (near the exhaust) 3/4's of the way towards the rocker panel.
But it stops short!! The floorpan goes another 3-4" and curves, It was at
the corner of the curve, where I found a small hole on each side, kinda was
pushed in. When I looked inside (with the carpets and backing removed), I
could clearly see a hole in the floor about 4-5CM in size. It was difficult to
see because the fiberglass floorpan was splintered. Hold a light under that
corner while looking inside gave a true picture of the hole. I repaired it, and
replaced the backing material (after drying out the carpet for 2 days and
using a heat gun. The molded carpet fell right back into place perfectly.
I had several theories as to how it happened, sharp rock kicked up, driving
into a service bay and the bottoms outside corner hit, but my choice was
improper jacking. My holes lined up directly opposite the corner of the
jacking point - like someone had used a lift improperly. Anyway, once fixed
its been bone dry ever since.
If you can't find a leak anywhere, try looking at the floorpan. The location
of the holes on mine were directly where tirewash would have sprayed water
on the holes which I'm sure forced water into the car. Also, remember to
feel the backing material up under the dash as far as you can go, and up on
the console tunnel. My backing was wet only a few inches up, that is why I
knew water was not coming in from "high-up" and running down.
Oh, you will find that the backing material (and carpet) probably won't be
wet beyond the front of the seats. I pulled my seats out to remove the
entire carpet (for drying). There is a molded "dam" starting where the seats
get bolted ('cause its metal not fiberglass) so the water never worked its
way beyond the "dam".
In any case, good luck - hope its an easy fix! :smash: :yesnod:
My Vette mainly sits in the driveway (I know, I know ...), so that means it doesn't get driven much. Every time I notice water on the passenger side floorboard it is after a rain. I've placed some towles in a few strategic places to see where the water is coming in. I tried spraying the car with water to see if I could detect any leaks, but there were none (of course). I'll update when I find anything else out.
