Default Problems gravity bleeding the slave cylinder

Greetings,

I'm trying to gravity bleed all the fluid out of a 1994 using this method:

"Bleeding the Clutch Hydraulic System -
One method for bleeding this system is to let fluid simply run through the system until clean fluid comes out. Close the bleeder screw , climb into the car and press down on the clutch pedal about fifty times. Then go back under the car and allow a little more fluid out one last time."

The problem is very little fluid has come out and the master cylinder is still full. Even with the bleeder screw out no fluid flows. I was able to spurt out some by pumping the clutch but now the clutch is floppy and the master cylinder reservoir is still full. I do not have any vacuum tools etc. Any ideas? Thank you.

I haven't bled one before, but I think you could put the bleeder screw back in, start car and depress clutch. With clutch depressed, turn off car. Then remove bleeder screw and fill reservoir completely full. It takes a while with the gravity bleed process.

Did you take the cap off the MC while trying this grav procedure? It'll be like a bottle of water held upside down. Without free air it will not drain. Vac bleeders are available at Harbor Freight pretty cheap, I think less than $30. Worked great on mine.

Harbor Freight has two vacuum brake bleeders. They appear to be the same unit with different brand names (and they're on sale right now).

Thanks to all for your advice. The front of the care was up on jack stands and I noticed somewhere in a previous post after I did a search of key words that the car should be level. The slave remained dry since the clutch was floppy but after I lowered the front end I was able to pump it up with the reservoir cap off to fill the slave and purge the system of air. I can only assume that the elevated front end was the problem. Maybe not, but it seems that way. Thanks again.
