Its not aftermarket. The '87 coupe i'm restoring has one of those. It has delco part numbers
on it, I'll probably remove it & put a coupling in its place or just remove the element.

Yes, my 87 had one. Took it off when I replaced the lines. Also, 87s have the flux capacitor in the compartment behind the driver seat.
Not all '87's have that filter on the return line. My 87 is a late production car and there is no return line filter.
It can't hurt to replace the filter and even if you remove it, the assembly could be a valuable part for somebody that might be restoring an '87 to NCRS standards.
