Default Steering column jumping around when bumpy

My steering column jumps around pretty bad when i hit bumps at speeds of 60 mph+. Anyone know what i need to replace or tighten up to get it more solid?

You use it to lift on when you get out of the car, don't you?

I do somewhat but the steering column is solid when in park it is just when i hit bumps driving down the highway that it jumps around. It has new tires and new Bilsteins all the way around.

Not sure if yours has the tilt column but if it does, maybe the handle is not locked

Check your connections under the hood where the shaft connects. Then check under the dash to make sure the two attachinig bolts are tight. There are also two attaching fasteners at the firewall inside the car.

If everything is tight, your issue is in the column knuckle.

The tilt housing repair is probably easier than a heater core job, but not by much.

The last time I did it, I removed the column. however it is possible to just replace the tilt housing pin on the left side with an oversize one without removing your steering wheel- that may be all you need, depending on the severity of the wear.

I took mine apart, very easily. When it was time to put it back together, I shipped it out to a rebuilder in NY.

Is the targa off when this happens? If so, that sounds like cowl shake and is more or less normal. Any worn out items in the front suspension will also amplify the effect.

I have a vert and mine does this due to cowl shake.
