Whining Amp???
I am a C3er posting this question for my dad who just bought a 86. The speakers emit a whining sound that varies with enging rpm...seems to only happen with the radio off. Im guessing this is the amp being not turned off with the radio??? Could someone lend some tech support on how to correct this. Thanks in advance.

What you have is a classic alternator whine. It sounds kind of cool but it is annoying shortly after the "coolness" wears off. Most serious stereo shops should sell a kit just for this problem. It mainly consists of a larger (capacitor). It is also possible that a different alternator will cure your problem too if you have one sitting around to try. Radio Shack used to sell an alternator filter kit but their quality is sometimes a little suspect.

I used to get that as my plug wires got old. Replacing them solved it. but have tno heard them for abotu 2 years now.. Might have been a bad set of wires to start,.,
