Default LT4 vs 2001 Firehawk

My nephew, a recent engineering grad bought an SLP Firehawk,Ed Wright Chip, cold air etc. He wants to race my LT4 at the track. I'm tempted but I don't drive my car hard at all. My racing days were 30 years ago!!! I still get on it once in a while (rolling start type stuff) but I've yet to really try & launch the thing. I know its a beast & if the shifting is still there, do you guys think I stand a chance? I'd love to kick some f-body booty!!!! :chevy

I think it'll come down to driver skill. Both cars are high 12/low 13 second cars depending on a million and one variables. The cold air box for the LS1 cars seems to be worth an honest 10 rwhp, and the Ed Wright reprogramming may be worth a couple.

Too many factors. The cars are close enough matched where the mental factor comes to play.

You could psych him out, get him all wound up at the start line, so he roasts his tires and you'll hook-n-go.

Or, try from a 25 mph roll, while you hold it in 1st gear.... he's toast for sure then.

The engine is standard LS1 factory fare packing 10.1:1 compression and pretty hefty internals. Notice that both the block and heads are aluminum. The engine in SLP trim is rated at 335 hp and 350 ft-lbs of torque. Factory numbers are 310 hp and 340 ft-lbs of torque. The increase comes from the improved induction and exhaust systems installed. Most road tests have these cars running very low 13's at more than 106 mph straight from the factory. If he's harboring any additional modifications and his car is running well, you better be on your toes!

Thanks Guys! I think I'll go for it one of these weekends, my GSC's are just about shot & that should give me pretty good grip at the line. I'll do the K&N thing & throttle body by-pass & see what happens!! I think the mind games are a good idea he can be a little hyper!!

I'll let you know what happens, thanks again!!

I know we are not supposed to bump old threads, but I had to in this case.

I am the nephew he refers to....lol I stumbled across this thread when doing a Google search for any info on my great uncle Cliff who was killed in France during WWII. My uncle, who posted this thread, was named after him.

I got a laugh out of this. We never did race. I still have the Firehawk and I also have a C6 now. His C4 LT4 was a very nice Vette! He sold it in '03 I believe. If anything, I would have gave him the edge as even though they were both comparable power-wise, his C4 had a decent advantage in vehicle weight.

I also had to laugh at the "hyper" comment....lol I do tend to get a bit riled up at times and tend to let my nerves get the best of me in certain situations.

We are actually going out to visit them in CA for a week in February. I'm going to have to mention this thread....lol

You should! And the rules have changed recently and correct me if I'm wrong, but you can revive an old thread as long as it's relevant to the topic. Badass C6 and Firehawk.

This forum has recently changed that rule for exactly this reason. Glad you stopped by for the update, just wish you and your uncle had gotten to the track before he sold his C4, I would have been interested in the results.

I like "sleepers", and the Firehawks - great cars - reveled in surprising people!

I ran across one driven by a young gal. She apparently had some success in smearing some "whoopass" on a couple early C4s with hers, cuz she was so excited about coming to the line against "another C4" that she couldn't contain her smirking lips and the twinkle in her greedy eyes!

T'was a "test n tune" day, so I did a rolling, tho spirited, start. That gal hammered the Firehawk and jumped me a car length off the light. But! Speaking of "whoopass", it didn't end well...for the Firehawk. It seems the Firehawk "sleeper" got up against another "sleeper"... I guess she missed the little ZR-1 badge on the bumper. - a mistake many C5s & 6s have made as well.

Of course my male pride delighted in the "kill". But! I came away with an appreciation for those Firehawks. The OP did well to have pause before taking one on (tho my money would be on the LT4).

BTW, the OP said his "GSC"s were nearly shot, so that should give him pretty good grip. Oh, really? I agree with the notion that a rolling start would be the best option, if that was the case.
