New Vette Owner
I just purchased my first Corvette (Love It). It is an 86 4+3 with 67,000 miles. This car has the original paint and interior that looks like new. The only issue this car has is the Bose radio. It will power up, the antenna goes up and the display works but no sound from any speakers. Anyone out there have some ideas on this? Is there somewhere in the Metro Detroit area that specializes in Vette?
Thanks, Steve

The Bose system uses an amplifier circuit at each speaker, and they are notorious for going bad. If that's the problem, then you're better off replacing the whole system.
As a new owner, you need to know that the law requires vette owners to wave to each other.

As far as the Bose, it is a tricky beast. Speakers and amps are a common problem with the age most are now approaching.
If you decide to have them rebuilt it's somewhere around 80-100 bucks per speaker at Doctor Dons.

First, learn to use the search function at the top. Dont just type in your terms in the "Search" box in the middle but look at the right on the toolbar up top for the little "Search" button, then hit "Advanced" then enter your search terms. At the lower right you will see all the Forums here, select "C4 General, Tech/Perf or whatever category fits best. This way you get specifics and will save a lot of time. And PLEASE do not ask what type of oil, gas, tires, wax, etc. These things are your choice, any of which usually will work on your car and it boils down to personal preference anyway.
I mentioned the expense sometimes involved with Corvette ownership. This is referred to as the Corvette Tax . The tax involves retailers charging absorbent amounts of money for parts that also fit mid size GM cars and the S-10. There are sometimes alternatives to rare and expensive Corvette parts so search the forum to perhaps find a cheaper alternative. A lot of times tho, the part is Corvette and even single year specific, making them made of unobtainium.
What you really have to watch is the "While I am in There" disease. This can get extremely expensive and sometimes terminal, lol. This is when you say "OK, I am going to change valve cover gaskets" and you end up buying new heads, cam, intake, and throttle body. Of course this is also personal preference but you have been warned!
Lastly, if you plan on working on your car, go ahead and buy a Factory Service Manual, most of the time Chiltons, Haynes and the smaller manuals will leave you lacking for specifics. The FSM's can be obtained here in the Parts For Sale, eBay or from Helms, the GM reprinter of these manuals. If you find some used ones, make sure they have red covers as white covers are the preliminary versions and refer back to the previous years FSM quite often.
I hope these simple tips will help your Corvette experience be a great one. You have a bunch of great folks here, typically not just wash, wax and drive people but owners that get in there and get greasy, bloody and curse. So welcome again and I hope I didnt scare you off!

Oh yeah and again..........
