Muffler Eliminators Get Installed Friday
Talked to a local custom exhaust shop today and made an appointment. I'm going with all welded stainless pipe, it costs a little more but i don't want any rusting. I figure i'll go this route first and if i don't like them i'll pull the trigger on a full Corsa exhaust in the spring.

I installed them on an 87 vert I used to have. They are very loud when you get the rpms up.
I felt they were too loud and socially irresponsible for my tastes so I removed them.
I was afraid I would get tickets too. Not for everyone.
They sound beautiful when you are cruising along slow but if you get to a hill and have to give it some gas then the sound is a bit much.
They do sound great when you are cruising the highway about 75 mph though.

You're making me nervous Ron. I'm not looking for obnoxious loud just want more rumble then what the factory pipes provide.
Steve, I was very happy with them for years. Then when I did the engine swap and went with long tube headers and cats deleted they were way way too loud. The OBX catback system is a good alternative and maybe the best bang for the buck.
You will love them! They sound mean, nice throaty growl.
Of course, unless you use it as a daily driver and drive for long periods of time, then you might end up hating them. I did, and I am only 22. The drone in 6th gear ended up bothering the hell out of me so I welded the stock mufflers back on and installed an X-pipe in place of the resonator. Nice deep sound, and it really decreased the amount of interior resonance and rattles of plastic parts.

I haven't been able to find the OBX system for the '96 model year.
What is the difference(if any)between the '95 and '96 years? OBX would be in my budget this year, the Corsa's would have to wait until next year. I just want to do this right, but am a bit anxious i guess. I may end up cancelling the appointment and do a little more research.
by way of comparision, when I bought my 96, it had a "custom exhaust" i.e reasonator deleted, and two chamber "shorty flowmaster" mufflers; It was unbearably loud and the drone at cruise was mind numbing.
what, you say, it's all subjective and I'm probably over sensative and imagining things? Well first, I am half deaf to begin with, and secondly, I didn't imagine driving in parking garages and setting off car alarms.
I don't know what your shop is charging you, but my buddy had a custom dual exhaust bent from mild steel and installed in his EL Camino; the cost was $1,500.00 (San Diego prices), or more than I paid for the complete Corsa exhaust system I subsequently installed.
I recently had mine installed and I love the sound and tone they produce. Reminds me of that '70 Chevelle smallblock I owned...headers, duel exhaust with I believe glasspacks. Nice and throaty muscle car rumble and I haven't noticed any "drone" at any speeds, cruising in town or on the highway.

As far as I know the only difference is a cross pipe behind the resonator, which means the 92-95 system will bolt right up. Check this item number on ebay 160833069969. I made a $330 offer and it was accepted if I remember right. But as long as you have factory cats you won't be disappointed with saving a lot of money and going with eliminators, which should only cost about $150 parts and labor.
I love mine! I can hear it at cruise, but sounds like music to my ears! Nothing better than listening to the rap, rap, rap on deaccel. Use mine as a DD and take many long trips, I never get tired of that sweet sound. Maybe I don't know what drone is.
I had the eliminators on my '94. I used them with the rest of the stock exhaust including the center resonator.
My first impression was that they were too loud. However, as I drove it more, I really started to like it a lot. I had that car for 2.5 years and about 50k miles before I sold it. Now I really miss the sound. A great sound at idle a nice deep rumble. It is reasonable at part throttle and loud at full throttle. In other words you can modulate the sound and keep it reasonably quiet when you want to.
Let us know what you think when you get yours done.
96 Vette CE- I purchased the Muffler eliminators and had them installed at the muffler shop for $40.00. This was the best $200.00 I have spent in a long time. I have a 1994 coupe with a 6 speed and the Cats and Resonator still on car. It is not too loud and there is no drone at any rpm. I drive my car in the city and the highway and I am happy with the sound. It kinda sounds like the older model Mustang GT's, except of course, its a CHEVY. Deep, rich and music to the ears !
BTW Im a 50 year old and I have had my share of hot rods with obnoxiosly loud exhaust sytems. You will be able to tell a difference in tone and loudness, but now the car soiunds as good as it looks.
Now people stare at the car and roll down their windows to hear it.
It's kinda like having a trophy wife and then taking her to the plastic surgeon for aftermarket headlights
If you still have all the cats it will be tame by my standards. You can always do what i did and have made on every vette ive owned (3), put y pipes in before the muffler, electric cutout valves. Open them up for fun or leave them closed driving normally. It scares the crap out of people when i open them and at autoX everyone says they plug their ears when i go by. Of coarse i have long tube headers, 2.5" no cats.
