On just the boots so they slide on easy or just contacts only?
Both ends???
if we are talking about dielectric grease it is a non-conductor, it is sealant, moistens, preserves rubber and repels water, while safe for this purpose,
I would not use it where you want to optimize conductivity, not to say, if you put some on where it should not be that the car won't run.
Like outside of the connector, but not where you want to connect metal to metal contact to be made.
I think it came with the cap. Did you find a small package with the cap that has a round rubber washer about 1/8" thick with a hole in the center and then a copper/brass "button"????
IF so, then look at the old cap and you will see that the button goes in the middle of the cap between the cap and the coil. This transmits the electrical voltage to the rotor. What you have is to be applied to the rubber washer (down side against the cap). You have to remove the coil to do this. If you don't put the "button" in....your not going to have and "juice".

"Dielectric Grease on spark plug boots to protect the electrical connections from dirt and corrosion. It prevents spark plugs from fusing to the boots and also helps prevent voltage leaks."
