I understand it was a way to get good/better EPA gas milage numbers with the 6-speed. If you are accelerating slowly it (guides?) forces you to shift from 1 to 4 rather than 1 to 2. I originally thought my transmission was broken. If you rev just a bit higher before shifting it turns off. I have gotten used to mine and have not bothered to disable it.
mine is still connected. it really bugs for about the first month you drive with it. if you don't dissconnect it you will get so used to it you will forget that it is even there. DON'T MISUNDERSTAND i do not shift 1-4, i wait for 2nd gear to open up. two signals you learn to look for.... 1) the 1-4 light will be on so DON'T shift, and 2) if you miss the warning light you will notice a slight resistance (before you grind). It really take no effort to work around the 1-4 shift. All that said .... if you have the wherewithall go ahead and dissconnect the thing :)
