Default Banging on the dash?

Hi,I have an '85 Coupe and the illumination on the digital display went out. Some have said that by banging their fist on the dash their lights came back on. Does this really work? I imagine if there was a loose or bad connection it might be jarred back into place by a hit on the dash. Just wondering if anyone has had success with this. Let me know. Thanks, Jay

It works, if you bang hard enough to make the screws come out so you can take it out and clean it, replace the bulbs and check the soldering.

Reading the title, I clicked on this thread with much anticipation - only to realize I've been spending too much time in the "Off Topic" section....

Generally, if you bang your hand/fist/hard object on the dash pad, all you will manage to do is crack the dash pad. If you tap gently on the face of the display, sometimes you will be able to get it to light up. Hit it to hard and you will crack the LCD and destroy the dispay.

I have heard of people banging on the dash pad. It's only styrofoam and you can break it.

I have also heard of a guy who rapped on this cluster and broke the LCD. Be careful.

It worked on my 84. After a couple of times I never had an issue again.

i would tap the cluster itself to get the cluster to brighten back up, but would not strike it hard for fear of damaging the lcd panel, lol. so in short, yes it works sometimes, lol.

I have flicked the cluster with my middle finger before and a blub that was dim/out turned back on but I would not be banging on my dash board like a mad man. lol...

I had a bad lifter once. I used a sledge hammer on the engine and dumped paint thinner into the oil and fuel tank. I read somewhere this would fix it. IT DID! It created lots of other major problems and I forgot about the bad lifter. (don't trust everything you read)

Hey it worked for Fonzie (Happy Days) when he would bang on the jukebox it would turn on, so why not a vette dash cluster.
