Any trick to this? Another forum member is coming over here to help me. The only thing I can see at this point is that the door carpets don't have the speaker holes cut so we'll have to do that. Also I thought I heard some problems with that carpeting. Tips? Do you apply that with 3M spray adhesive?
no they use yellow 3m weather stripping adheasive. my advice would be not to worry about the door carpet yet. do the rest of the carpet first. the door carpet is a one day project in its self. the speaker holes are cut after the glue dries. i can give you a step by step on the doors if you need. you will need a carpet stapeler to do that job. im sure you know someone that has one. the carpet wont fit just right and you will have to trim some pieces. i recommend the silver heat shields to go under the carpet in the hot spots. it took me two days to do the carpet. and another to do the doors but its not so bad. buy a carpet cutter and extra blades before you start. good luck
Where did you buy your carpet from Thrills? I got chunks of mine from ACC and it didn't need trimming.
If you have to trim, be preped for a two day event and prepare to be sore (working in a cramped up car isn't easy).
Steps to get the project rolling...
1. Remove the roof of the car
2. Remove the seats (if they are power, leave them connected and remove all bolts before disconnecting the power...both seats need all wires connected for the power to work)
3. Dis-assemble the console (lid, plastic thing around the shifter)
4. Remove the sills on each side
5. Remove the plastic around the very back of the hatch (no need to take the side plastic off...the carpet just tucks under that).
I've done it 3 times now, and I can strip the interior in 30 minutes.
I'd be happy to help...but I'm a tad far away....
BIGGIE TIP - There are two "hidden" screws that hold the console carpet where it meets the dash. Once you have removed the plastic around the shifter, the housing that goes around the stereo and heater controls will move forward at the bottom...that's all you need. You'll see one screw inside that plastic on each side of the stereo...those are the hidden screws that hold the console carpet on by the dash.
Jenn:
Is this installation for the Ruby Roadster or the Coupe? There was a very descriptive article, with great photo's in Corvette Fever about the carpet installation in a later C-4 'Vert. Let me know, and I could check and find out what month and year. If I still have it I would be more than happy to mail it to you.

Thanks for the replies guys :seeya We're most of the way done. While had it apart we changed the storage bin set-up (doors and frame) and added heat shield. The only thing we still need to do is the doors and put all the screws back in for the under knee area and bezels and covers.
BTW we loosened all the screws from the sills but never did get them off, is there a trick? I need to replace one of them that's cracked and just want to know for future reference.
