I have sold my 85 and am looking for a clean, low mile 94-96. Went to look at a 94 today, advertised as pristine, 1 owner, 18k miles. Called and asked about any flaws. Said car was perfect, maybe a mark here or there. For 18k miles this car was in bad shape, far from pristine. Needs, new top, tires, wheels, paint, weatherstrip, front bumper dented. Spot on pass. side fender had obviously been repaired(poorly). When I pointed this out he did not acknowledge or deny it. Since he was the only owner I'm sure he knew but did not tell me. When I pointed out all of the issues and told him the car was not pristine. He said " you are looking for a perfect car and this one is 8 years old. I said I realize that and I am looking for a perfect car and that is what you told me this was, you are asking top dollar for it and it should be perfect. He said I could make him an offer and I said that won't be necessary. My 85 was in better shape. How do you beat up a car so bad in 18k miles. Why do people lie? Do they think others are so stupid? Look up pristine in the dictionary, you will not see a pic of this car there. I wonder how many more wasted trips I will make before I find my car. I feel better now. Guy :mad
he probably turned back the hands of time. maybe 118k true miles. if the car is that beat up on the outside in 18k you can bet the rest is in poor condition. you can usualy look at the wear on the brake pedal and see if the miles are correct.

Seems like he has a different definition of pristine then you and I. I hope you didn't have to travel too far to see it. My father and i drove 3 hours once to see a pristine car. The car didn't run, had a rusted frame and no vin tag. I hope you took his car out and beat the snot out of it just for spite. :reddevil

Kinda hard to do that in the computer age isn't it?
I looked at a 93 that was poorly represented by it`s owner. Cracked paint, dirty interior, suspension stuck in perfomance mode and a slipping clutch. I told him I wasn`t interested for these reasons and he said he wasn`t worried, someone would buy it. Sadly he is probably right.
Feel for ya, I looked for just about 4 months before finding my car...
What I finally did...before heading over to look at a car I ran Carfax on it. If that was clean, I phoned the owner and explained what my definition of "clean car" was so there is no mis-understanding and I didn't waste my time.
Help save me boatloads of time...but I did it the long way for the first two months...burnt lots of gas and wasted many a weekend!
I drove 160 miles round trip on Sat and about 60 miles round trip today(Tues). The car Sat was not too bad I don't feel as if the owner decieved me but the car on Tues was definatly not what he said it was. I always ask many questions on the phone so I don't have to waste my time and the owners time. He told me nothing about needing a new top and the dent in the bumper or anything else. I looked at the car for 30 seconds and made up my mind. What a joke. When you point things out they play stupid. I am looking for a perfect car and am willing to pay a reasonable price for it, I will not settle for anything less. This car was fair to good cond. at best. I will keep looking, Guy
I always hate it when you pull up and see the car in the drive and you know you don't like it. You want to just drive away with out getting out, but I always at least stop to tell the guy, sorry not interested.
Every car I've gone to look at so far has been a raging pile of crap. The first had major fiberglass cracks all over, poorly aligned body panels, lousy paint, and major mechanical problems. I told them I was 2 hours away and asked them a million questions... they misrepresented the car completely.
Next one was 4 hours away. Had spark knock
You'll have to get used to seeing 10 junk cars for every nice one, and that nice one will be overpriced.
Hey squeaky, you are right on the nose with that comment. When I knocked on the door his wife answers and said he will be right out, go ahead and look. After looking for 30seconds, I wanted to get in my car and bolt but I was nice and waited. When he came out I told him I had seen enough. People don't like to be told that their cars are pos but the next person that comes to see that"PRISTINE" car might not be as nice as I was. Inaband you are correct, he is looking for some sucker who doesn't know much and he can take advantage of. I'm no expert but I know what scrathes and dents look like. Guy
Jim, I have followed your pursuit of a vette also, I think you have given up, haven't you. From now on I'm thinking of having people drive to my house if they want to sell their car. I will tell them,"if the car is what you say it is ,I will buy it and give you a lift home, if it is not, you are on your own." LOL, Guy
I haven't given up completely, but I'm also no longer putting any effort toward the search. When I stumble upon a car that I want so bad that I'm willing to sell my teeth for, I'll buy it. Until then, I'm going to enjoy my GTA and my IROC. Hopefully you'll find what you're looking for soon enough. I'm starting to understand why some of the corvette dealers are able to get such inflated prices for their cars. Some people don't have the patience to wade through all of the heaps of crap to find a nice one.
I went to go look at IPRESS's corvette a couple of weeks ago...that thing is very clean. I suggest you call him. I have some good pictures, the ones he has arent very good. He is actually going to Washington this week, so you might want to give him a try. Like I said, it is a very very nice car.
Jim, you probably have the best approach but at least you have an IROC and a GTA, I have a Sunfire. I'm dying here. There is a Vette dealer down the road and I know they have some nice cars and a good rep. but you are right about the inflated prices. I have thought about it though. I don't know how flexable they are. I hope it does not come to that but at least I would have a warranty if anything went wrong. We'll see, Guy
IPRESS's car looks great and is what I am looking for, unfortunatly he lives to far away. I could not buy a car without seeing it and driving it. I value everyone's opinion but some guy's opinion of pristine is what started this topic in the first place. I'm sure it is a great car, I wish he lived closer. Thanks, Guy
