Hey Guys...Love this site...Enjoy going through the threads and reading for what ails ya! Anyway...I have one I am hoping an avid mind can help me with. This is what I am experiencing...My digital portion of my dash blinks out when the interior is hot. The amber backlight stays lit but the speedo and fuel bars go out. Now get this...When I turn on the A/C and things cool off...The digi readout slowly comes back up after the interior cools! There is a heavy clackety clack as it slowly comes back to life from the passenger side where the relays are at. Now mind you as this happens the "sys" is also in the digi readout but when it seems to cool down on the interior of the vehicle it goes back to totally normal operation. If I cut off the A/C on a warm day then as the interior/dash warms up to the outside temperature the clackety clack starts slowly and the digi readout starts to blink out as well as the interior lights start to do a light show by blinking on and off in conjunction with the clacking! I have tried replacing the relays and such but get the same thing....Any Ideas???? Thanx
I had similar problems that turned out to be the ground terminal on the battery. Cleaned off the black crust on the post and evrything came back to life. A smear of grease on the posts seems to keep it clean.
OK you need a work shop manual to workout the circuit of how the fuel bar and speedo connects.
With the clicking of the relays it sounds like you have a miss connection somewhere. There is a chance the plug of the instrument cluster is loose and only shows the issue when its hot.
A sys warning means a code has been triggered. You need to ground the ALDL plug to pull the codes. My thinking is that since the sys light triggers when your dash goes south in the heat, you would be able to find out what is faulty or what circuit to enable you to start checking.
