Default cruise / ac vent problem

Need a little help with my problem guys. A little background on the problem, cruise would not work 2 times last year but operated properly the rest of the time. Don't hardly use the ac on the car as its a vert.
Current problem is cruise will not engage at all now and when I use the ac I could not get anything out of the vents on the dash. Air would come out of the defroster vent and out of the floor vent but not out of the dash vents. Any help on where to look would be appreciated, could these two issues be caused by the same problem? 61,000 miles on car.
thanks

Very common problem. Look at the vacuum fitting under the passenger side fuel rail cover with the two lines coming off it.

Also how old are the vacuum lines on the car. I replaced all of mine as they appeared dried out and some were rotted. It can't hurt to replace them now if you haven't before.

For the vent problem...I had this a couple years ago with my LT4. It involved changing the a/c heater temperature valve actuator.

That barrel type plastic fitting that the two hoses attached to was toast. It had broken where it goes into the elbow that goes into the manifold. When I pulled it up to check another of the hose fittings broke, hoses seems ok. I don't know if you can get that barrel type fitting anymore, will have to check. Think I'm going to jury rig it in the meantime while I check on the part availability, like to do things right if possible.
Thank you for help with this problem, it certainly appears to be it.

You can get the fittings about any auto parts store. Only about $5.

Paul, you guys were dead on about checking the fitting area for the problem. Your comment about the vacumn hoses is also worth checking out. Had the car two years now and seeing this problem I definately need to check out the hoses also.
I hope this fix also fixes my ac vent problem since both hoses were not getting the vacumn.
Thanks a lot for the advice

Found some part numbers in an old thread - GM #15-5421 or 10135692. Someone also posted up the number for the 'help' section at Advance Auto, but I can't find the link. Glad it is an easy fix for you.

Andy, went to pep boys and they actually had a dorman double check valve $4.99. body is a little larger but got it in there.
Poring down rain so have to wait to see if both problems are solved when I can get it out for a spin.
Thanks again

Let me know how it turns out. Just noticed where you are from - Kmart still have that large distribution center there in Warren?

I have same problem with a/c not changing over to center ducts. Is this vacuum fitting the possible culprit ? Going to check mine tomorrow. Was going to start with previous post (a/c heater temperature valve actuator) idea because I had heard they tend to go bad & are a discontinued part from GM.& I believe they said located under dash at your right knee if I remember correctly. Great forum !!!

Here is the valve that advance auto has http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/web...rm=check+valve

My valve is located next to the upper intake on the drivers side, I have a 1990 C4. The valve seems fine and I have the same problem air out the defrost and under the dash so my next step is the climate control or actuator.

I remember reading that the vacuum fittings under the fuel rail cover are different on a 96 model. Also that loose vac lines at the programmer under the dash are a problem in the 96 years.

Thanks I will start with vacuum loss as culprit easy enough to check. Like I said I had researched this a couple years ago when my problem was intermittent. Car never has any hissing vacuum loss sound when good or bad. I am looking for old post that described part under dash that GM discontinued. I even located a used one for like $140.00 at a local grave yard that deals with salvage vets. Winter came never followed it up. Oh well car has 23,000 miles and is 16 years old I guess I can't bitch with this one issue. Thanks all for any additional info.
