Default Third stop light?

How difficult would it be to add a third stop light from a latter model to my 85.

Don't know but if you did, nobody would be able to tell yours was an '85.
Whenever I see a missing third brake light, I know it's either an '84 or '85 so I look for the "Tuned Port Injection" on the front side moulding.

Ok I tried to find a thread to help you. Couldn't find out but here is some discussions

I was being less than truthfull. Actually, I have a 85 with a third stop light installed by a PO. It looks completly stock and well installed. I was just wondering how much work the PO went through and why go thru all the trouble. Other than that, the car is completly original. Body, paint and never been wrecked. 9,5 out of 10. 86k.

And just today I posted one on "everyone has an opinion"...

You are wanting to add a thrid brake light and I am wanting to remove mine on an 86 and remove the radio antenna, fill in the holes and add one of the little sharkfin antennas where the 3rd ligth was. My point is, I have 4 brake lights that are already 4 inchs -dia. round. Heck if they can't see that they certainly will not see a little 1" by 6" strip on my roof. So what good is it? As they say: To each his own..... good luck, you want to buy a 3rd light?

Somebody told me once that they tried to install a 3rd brake light on an earlier C4 -- I don't remember if it was an '84 or '85. He said they broke the hatch glass when they tried to drill the mounting holes.

The CHMSL (Center High-Mounted Stop Light) is there because it isn't
on at night, so there's a MUCH bigger difference when you get on the
brakes at night. The four low lights just get brighter. The CHMSL comes
out of nowhere. And it's higher up and more visible. Given the rear
gas tank, I REALLY don't want to get rear-ended.

You MIGHT find it easier to get a junk yard rear window from an
'86 and up.

And I thought those shark fin antennas were for GPS.

you could always add the vert CMSL - it's not as high as the coupe, but IMO, it's a much cleaner design, and easier installation. it definitely would be unique.

to wire it up - not 100% sure, but i think you have to replace your original brake light switch with a later style that has the additional contacts for the center mount brake light, and just run the wires. no chance of breaking the rear glass...
