Carpet install progress and question, photos inside!

New carpet looks so DARK! All the pieces are here and ready to go.
Roy working on getting the seat out and I started in the cargo area, here's how it looked before we started.
This is why the carpet could not just be dyed.

Heat shield in, later we realized it was upside down. No problem since we realized that you basically have to take the whole interior apart to "finish" any of it
The cargo area is done and we stacked the books to flatten the carpet and break for lunch
Getting there now, but uh-oh we haven't gotten to the hardest part yet, the knee areas and the doors
No "final" pic for the day but at this point we're done with the knee carpets and just need to do the doors, which brings me to my question.
I say the new carpets should go like this
Roy and my husband say that this vinyl lip should go on top of the carpets. Anyone??

BTW no gross suprises when we took the seats out but I was suprised how stained the carpets were, I thought they were clean!

Anyway. I think the overall quality was OK. The pieces weren't all cut correctly and required some trimming. The color was not a perfect match to the parts of the original that hadn't seen the light of day. Would I use it again? Yes, especially since it was free  Would I use it if I wanted an NCRS C4? No, I'd probably shop around and see what else everyone has to say before you decide.
Hardest for me,I had to clamp the carpet down that runs up behind the seats OVER
into the cargo area with C clamps and wood and lotsa glue and leave it overnght since the mass backing was thick and wasnt as flexible as the original GM rug they stuck on there.
GM stuck some kind of thin, bald guys hair piece type rug over the cargo/console tunnel and did the same for the rear hatch wall.
Also had to take the console panels out to redo and glue the side carpets on the tunnel.Left 20 books on them overnight on the bench so theyd never pull off..I worry a bit much eh?
:)
Moral is,the kits are never the exact same cut, color,or pieces and always need trimming to fit,but otherwise make the car smell and feel like new again.
About the door panel,I didnt do those yet and cant recall which is in or over.

At this point all that's left cosmetically is a new shifter **** and I'm done. Eventually I'd like to dress up the motor with blue wire covers etc, but the body and interior is pretty well done :)
