Default C4 Rebuild

Well it looks like i need a new engine for my 87 vette. it loks like it will cost between 4-6K to fix it. my i have had this car for 17 years an had hoped to pass it along to my son. my 15 year old son and i dont know much about engines but would love to take on the challenge. between our new friends on the forum and a couple personal friends can we rebuild it? we are rookies at best but may have the tools.

love the car and cant give it away, we need to keep it in the family.

Do it , it's the best thing that ever happened to me
2 weeks after i got my car , the engine gave up . . .
I Rebuild it and i started upgrading it and five years later i'm still
upgrading it , lol but that's me , you can always do a stock rebuild
guided by a small chevy block book, it will be a nice father-son project !
make sure to document everything , you will gain experience and nice memories.
Go for it !!!

Thirty-some years ago I was afraid of pulling the intake to fix an oil leak. I had no money to pay to have it done so I grabbed any book I could find and my small tool box. Two days later it was running , but poorly until a friend stopped over and installed the distributor where it was supposed to be. Since then I have rebuilt about 6 sbc engines and wouldn't hesitate to tear into another.

Iv'e been a heavy equipment mechanic for 25+ years now. I remember back in 89 being in one of Caterpillars in house training classes, the teacher stating "if you have the FSM and you can read, you can fix it". Still remember that to this day. Also joked about what FSM realy stands for.
