My 86 water pump has gone off. I have been pricing water pumps and the prices jump wildly. $140.00 for AC Delco up to $229.00 These prices are from the dealer and Corvette specialty places. Napa and other local parts places Non-Ac Delco or high performance, have been from $40.00 up to $80.00.
IF you replaced your Water pump what did you go with? Why? And How much? Thanks in advance.
I really believe that the increase in flow of a pump with a cast or machined impeller where the vanes are curved is well worth the money over the cheaper stamped sheet metal "paddle wheel" designs...especially if you are considering any type of a pulley "underdrive kit".
and despite what the parts listing may say (especially with cheaper pumps) make sure the shaft outer diameter matches the i.d. of the water pump pulley...corvettes typically use a larger shaft of 3/4 inch od, lesser pumps may have a 5/8" od.
I used a weiand team G pump on a VB Monza some years back...not an easy car to cool by any means...it allowed installing a system of under drive pulleys with no loss of coolong.
