changed both relays for fans both water sensor one fan does not seem to go on second fan goes on around 220 230 on temp guage each line does equal 40 degrees
Just recently went through that - secondary fan quit, actually. It was the fusible link. Check to see if you have voltage to the relay, and if not then check the link, is my thought. GM had a link, but I got a generic one from the parts store. Works fine now.
In the earlier cars, the auxiliary fan is controlled by a temperature switch in the head. Disconnecting that connector and touching it to a metal ground will make the fan come on. The main fan is controlled by the ECM and will turn on if you ground the diagnostic terminal of the ALDL connector (ignition on).
In later years both fans were controlled by the ECM/PCM/whatever you call it. I believe you can get them both to come on by grounding the diagnostic terminal of the ALDL connector.
