A buddy of mine just picked up a nice 92 coupe. He wants to remove
the window tint on the hatch glass and side windows. Whats the best
way to do it?
Thanks
Mine wasn't too hard to remove. Required a little effort pulling it off, plus an occasional razor blade. If/when you use the blade, be REALLY careful not to cut any of the rear defroster wires.
Big Question: How do you get the remaining adhesive glue off the window after you've removed the tint paper!?
I have removed tint a couple of times(never on the Vette) by parking in the sun, librally wetting window with an Windex, apply a black trash bag(it will stick to the wet window) and coming back awhile later and pull it off.
Glue also comes off with windex, thats why you should never use it on tint that you want.

It was alot easier than I ever imagined.
Just to be clear......YOu wet the tint and put the trash back on the same side as the tint also???? Or the bag on the outside of the glass???

Put the trash bag on the inside(wet side). Any window cleaner with ammonia is fine. The heat(sun) and ammonia will dissolve the glue and it will come right off.

Trash bag iis the way to go but I use simple green instead of windex, the darrk trash bag absorbs the heat from the sun it is called sweating.
I'm in the same boat.....my rear hatch tint was peeling in one corner so I just pulled it all off very easily....unfortunatly all the adhesive stayed. I tried windex without sucess....and concern for the defroster lines ruled out razor blade......somewhere on a Tint Forum I read and some guy swears by "Easy Off" oven cleaner, he claimes it works great, spray on and wipe off... and doesnt affect the defroster lines. I'm just trying to figure out how to spray the hatch underneath without spraying the cleaner all over the place and possibly ruining parts of the interior......major cover up prep work....or remove hatch and flip it over on the ground......

Take a razer blade, in a corner were there is no defroster line, and scrape it to make sure their is not a light or clear 2nd layer of tint. Window tinting rarely pulls off that easy unless it is just the first layer. If their is a 2nd layer you will need to steam it off. If it is just glue get a blue scrubbing pad, (do not use green it will scratch the glass), simple green, and some elbow grease and you can get the glue off.

Thanks again for all the advise. Just finished removing the tint on the
hatch glass. And yes there where two layers. The second layer was a beotch to remove but with patience we got it. Helped that it was
really warm today, even in the Buffalo NY area. lol
Thanks again,
Jimmy
